Past and Present

Model: Triumph Toledo

When the 1500 was introduced in 1970 a rear wheel drive 1300 was also marketed, the Toledo: this shared the 1300 FWD's body with revised front end styling and single headlamps and two doors only. A year later a four door version arrived and the two door version was axed in 1975. Toledo's sold in considerable numbers, roughly 110,000 being built through the two / four door split is unknown. There was talk of the two door shell being used in a sporting model but nothing came of this idea. Cost cutting features included all-round drum brakes in the first two years of manufacture. Carburation was by a single SU instead of the previous Strombergs and power was down at 58 bhp.
